4 and one half months = 18 weeks
I saw the midwife yesterday, and Kevin came with to hear the heartbeat. Tyrannosaurus rex baby is doing just fine, although the midwife had trouble measuring the heartrate since Tyrannosaurus rex baby's mom kept giggling and causing her to lose the heartbeat. Giggling is so much better than crying. She tried to take a few times, and finally settled on, 161, 162, or 163 beats per minute.
I couldn't help it--she couldn't find the heartbeat at first, then she found it, and then she lost it, but immediately found it again all the way over on the other side of my stomach. So she made a joke about the baby swimming around in my amniotic fluid, so active that we can't catch it long enough to take the heartbeat, and it made me laugh. All evening. And today too. It's just so comical to imagine that there's this miniature human literally swimming around my uterus. That's funny. Like maybe it can tell from the pressure of the doppler that she's trying to measure it, and it giggles and swims away, just to be mischevious.
Mischevious little baby :)
Kevin liked hearing the heartbeat, and he's coming back with me to the next appointment at the end of May. We have a lab slip for an u/s, which we can go get anytime in the next three weeks. I think I will wait for maybe the thrid week, when I might be feeling insane again.
So here's the stats:
me: as we know, no gestational diabetes yet. Yes!
weight gain= none
BP= 118/72
Heartrate= 73
nuttiness factor= extremely high.
Baby: AFP came back normal, as reported previously to ya'll. Yes! Probably no neural tube defects or Down's syndrome
heart rate= low 160's
mischevious factor= probably high!
more heartbeat= strong, and loud.
gender guessing= still 85% chance of girl.
weight= according to your week by week pregnancy= 5.25 oz
- according to babycenter.com= 7 oz
- according to americanbaby.com= no weight report, they just said the baby will be able to start hearing voices soon.
I dreamt last night that I was huge, and I could feel it move. And Kevin's sister in law was pregnant too. And I was eating a chinese buffet breakfast full of all my favorites chinese foods. And I got to work and we all had letters from the evil dictator in charge that he was leaving for another company, called the Truman Candle Company, and he would miss us all.
The baby can probably hear my voice. I hope I'm not freaking it out--dude, can you imagine how freaky that would be? To live in a totally silent world your whole life, and all of a sudden, these unseen voices start up all around you? That would be weird. Especially if you didn't understand them. I wonder if the baby understands English. Maybe another language, but no one knows that because babies can't talk, and then as they grow up they forget what it was like to have all these people speaking strange things around them?
Maybe they like it though, maybe the baby's lonely in there with not even voices to hear.
I will play it the beach boys. What lovely sounds to hear first.

if it were me, and i could stand it, i would wait for the u/s until 20-21 weeks. they're less likely to see things then that will worry you and ultimately go away. see if you can have 3d- the pics are really cool, but your insurance might say no, or the place might not have it. anyway, what an exciting time of your pregnancy! right now, the baby will start to hear things, and could speak any language eventually, but will start organizing it's brain to understand your words, so bp (for babypants) will speak english, and whatever else you teach him/her. pretty soon you will feel movement- also exciting. and then in a few weeks, babypants gets officially "viable!" i'm so psyched- i hope i can keep myself on the "gets to hold bp" list!
I think babypants should learn Chinese - hold the phone up to your stomach the next time we talk!!
All three of you are still on the list to hold Babypants. Absolutely:)
Melissa--I rememembered the comment you made a while back about holding off on the u/s, and I told my midwife you had said that--and she agreed it would be a good idea. The script is written for 18-21, and Kevin and I plan to wait until 20-21 anyhow, because:
1.--you said so
2.--I could be crazy again by 20-21, because I won't have heard the heartbeat for weeks, and I may not be feeling movement yet by then.
I'll check into the 3-d u/s thing. That sounds cool!
Kari--nutiness factor directly proportional to the health of the baby! Thank God it's not inversely proportional! Then I would be screwed! You are sure it's not inversely proportional, right???
Sareet--
Of course, the baby would love to hear you speak chinese. Awesome. let's do that. Wouldn't it be funny if the baby heard you sopeak chinese just a few times, and then as it got olde,r had an affinity for speaking the language? Sweet. I could have an amniotic fluid- swimming genius baby.
I probably do.
