I'm f*&#-ing old! What happened to me?

I was driving home from the gym last night, when it occurred to me that I'm old. I was thinking about the gym, and about how my mom told me once that your metabolism dramatically slows down after you hit 30. And then I realized how old I really am. It's funny how I came to be in this position really. I didn't used to be old. But all of a sudden I am. There are a lot of factors that make me old though.

1. I am 27. I turned 27 on April 1st. So I have my physical age that makes me old.

2. I am married. I think that also makes me older.

3. I have 3 children (bunnies). Does this count? I think it does.

4. I make dinners in crock pots. The night before, I prepare something and put in the crock pot and in the fridge, and then take it out before I go to work and start it cooking, or have Kevin start the crock pot when he gets home at 3, so we can eat when we get home from the gym at 8. The motivation behind this is to save money--if we are hungry and know a cooked hot dinner is waiting at home, we are less likely to detour to Hooters or Taco Bell on the way home from the gym. We have probably 2-3 crock pot dinners a week.

5. I grocery shop with coupons. All the time. If it's not produce or milk, and I don't have a coupon for it, it's not in my cart.

6. I only grocery shop with coupons at stores that double or triple them.

7. I buy certificates for grocery stores at church so I can help support the school. I am doing this so I can help ensure admission to the catholic school of my choice for my children. I only buy certificates for stores that double and triple coupons.

8. After the wedding, I slowly started wearing more and more old lady underwear.

9. I don't remember the last time I wore heels. I never plan to wear them again.

10. When I go places and see 'kids', I usually guess they are much younger than they really are. Today, there was a group of 'kids' on site at work. I asked this guy at lunch that had been working with the 'kids' --"Hey, what are all those kids here for today?" He said "Kids? Well, they are students in the Masters program for chemistry at U of D". !! I thought they were high school kids.

So, last night, when I was coming home from my step class, I realized that I was only 3 years from 30, and my husband is only 1 year from 30, and when my mom and dad were 30 I was 8. I remember it. There is no possible way that I will have an 8 year old when I turn 30. None of my children will remember when their mom turned 30.....Isn't that weird?

Unless some guy who has given birth to my extremely unexpected love child comes forward......

Ok, but back to how old I am. Do you remember when you were 17? I do. I considered 27 year olds to be adults. I figured they must be really together--you know, having careers and knowing what they are doing with their lives. All really grown up. Way more together than I had things at 17. But now at 27....I definitely don't feel grown up like I should. I definitely don't feel that easy "Yeah, I have it all together" feeling I expected. In fact, I think I had it all together more when I was 17. I wish the 17 year old me could come and work for the 27 year old me, because I was really smart and responsible and had a life plan.....I just feel lucky if I can make it to work on time (hmm, ok, make it to work) and then to the gym and home for a crock pot supper and to bed at a decent time (10 o' clock is a decent time for bed for us).

Maybe I shouldn't have any real kids--I'm probably going to die soon. Probably in the next 45-50 years. And if my kids are as lost in their adulthood as I am, I won't live long enough to see them REALLY grow up.

Do we ever really grow up?

What happened???

I am SO with you about getting old. And I cook with crock pots too, although badly, b/c somehow...I dunno, it just doesn't work right. I sometimes clip coupons, and I always go through the circulars, or whatever they're called, to see what's on sale at the grocery stores. I get sleepy by 9:30 p.m. I use anti-wrinkle cream. I practically NEVER wear heels - I have no idea how I used to wear five inch platform boots in college. I won't go to bars where the crowd is primarily 21-ish. If I get a hangover, it takes me FOREVER to recover. I barely spend money on clothes. I often think - god what are these kids wearing these days??? I have an IRA. I actually open, pay, and file my bills, rather than stuffing them into a bag and hiding them under my bed. I make my bed in the morning (usually).

(*sigh*)

I feel like I was just 23. When did I become 27? (last thursday, of course...but that's not the point...and not that four more years older is THAT old, but dang, I'm practically 30)

I am glad to know I'm not alone. Practically 30. I definitely feel like I was just 23. Times goes by so fast I guess.

I could add all of your things to my list as well.

Hmm about the crock pot cooking....do you tend to burn things in it? For some reason, I burn stuff in it.....I follow the recipe, come home--and sometimes, it's burned. Hmmm.

BTW, I have a couple crock pot recipes I think you would like that are easy. One is a mexican casserole, and the other is this bacon wrapped chicken. Both were pretty good. Let me know if you want them.

God, look how old I am! Using my blog to exchange recipes!!

I feel sorry for you hubby that your wearing granny panties. As a male it's nice to see those tongs when the pants come off at night. It's nice to wrap your hands around a nice firm bum. I am glad that you have a hot meal when you get home instead of going to Hooters! What is up with that. You enjoy hooters. What is the attraction for you to go there?
Great blog by the way I enjoyed reading it. Keep up the good work.
Mike

I definitely want the recipes!

I don't know what happens - it usually turns out very flavorless and mushy. Maybe I'm overcooking?

Kokoboy and Mike P--thanks for reading! I'm glad you enjoy my blog!

Mike P--I will heed your advice and try and get back into the habit of sexy undies--at least a few times a week. You are right, that seems fair.

Oh, Mike P--and the attraction at hooters for me is the buffalo shrimp. Man, I love those.

Kokoboy--3 kids and 2 businesses?? That might be it. I have none of those and I feel old.

Sareet--would you like me to blog the recipes, or mail them to you? I never usually have the mushy and no flavor problem--I have the not adding enough liquid problem. Kevin loves lasagna, and I tried this crock pot lasanga this week--it turned out all right. Not awesome. But all right. I will give you that one too if you want to experiment.
